UNIgreen : first “green” European university

In 2022, HEPL has joined UNIgreen, a network of European higher education partners sharing a common desire: to create a “green” European university specializing in the fields of agriculture, biotechnologies, life and environmental sciences.

This European university intends to provide its students with the skills necessary to become agents of the transition towards a climate-neutral economy!

The main objectives of UNIgreen

  • Provide up-to-date scientific information and a technological framework to train, develop, reskill and empower current and future professionals and experts in the field of sustainable agriculture, green biotechnology and environmental and life sciences.
  • Co-create and test innovative solutions to improve local and regional development.
  • Promote the transition of students to international labor markets, integrate green practices and inspire education and training establishments around the world to think and act green.
  • Provide inclusive and mixed education in an environment based on the principles of equality and diversity.

To achieve its objectives, UNIgreen is implementing a series of interdependent actions:

  • a student-centered educational model that offers flexible learning, a common approach to micro-credentials and innovative teaching and learning methodologies. A joint Master’s degree is also organized by the different partners
  • a virtual campus, an efficient, quality, inclusive and sustainable digital space for the entire UNIgreen academic community
  • the UNIgreen International Doctoral School which promotes, organizes and moderates theses under UNIgreen co-supervision. Doctoral students carry out their research activities within the UNIgreen Joint Research Center and specialized research units.

Students and staff mobility

In order to promote exchanges, UNIgreen works to reduce obstacles to mobility for students and staff, and organizes joint mobility programs:

  • Welcome Weeks” to integrate students on site
  • a “Buddy program” to put foreign students in contact with local students
  • an “Erasmus4All” campaign which promotes the mobility opportunities offered by UNIgreen as part of the Erasmus+ program, with the aim of meeting the needs of students and staff by reducing obstacles to their participation in mobility.

Research with UNIgreen

The European university offers programs to supervise academic research:

  • UNIgreen Knowledge Triangle, an innovation and technology transfer initiative that strengthens collaboration between education, research, business and industry stakeholders
  • the Start-Ups for Research (SURES) program supports the creation of innovative start-ups in the field of sustainable agriculture, green biotechnology and environmental and life sciences.
